Lorcan Towey

Physiotherapist

Lorcan is a Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist with a passion for helping runners and active individuals overcome injury, optimise performance, and continue doing the activities they love. As both a physiotherapist and a runner, he understands the physical and mental challenges that come with training, competing, and returning from injury.

Lorcan has a particular interest in running-related injuries, lower limb tendon disorders, bone stress injuries, and hip, knee and ankle conditions. Whether you're training for your first 5km, preparing for a marathon, or simply looking to run pain-free, he combines detailed assessment, strength and conditioning principles, hands-on treatment, and evidence-based rehabilitation to help you return to running stronger, more confident, and more resilient.

Before joining The Running Room, Lorcan gained extensive experience in private musculoskeletal practice, treating a wide range of running, sporting, and general musculoskeletal injuries. He has worked with recreational runners, endurance athletes, and active individuals, delivering tailored rehabilitation programmes, manual therapy, shockwave therapy, and performance-focused treatment plans designed not only to reduce pain but to address the underlying cause of injury and minimise the risk of recurrence.

Lorcan also previously worked as a rotational physiotherapist within the NHS, where he gained valuable experience across musculoskeletal outpatients, acute medicine, and neurological rehabilitation. This broad clinical background has strengthened his clinical reasoning and enables him to confidently manage a wide variety of presentations while tailoring treatment to each individual's goals.

Alongside his clinical work, Lorcan is the physiotherapist for Cú Chulainns GAA, providing pitch-side medical cover, injury assessment, and return-to-play rehabilitation in a fast-paced sporting environment. Working closely with athletes has further developed his understanding of training load management, performance, and the physical demands of competitive sport.

Lorcan has completed postgraduate training in running rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, and shockwave therapy and is committed to continually developing his clinical practice through ongoing professional education. He believes that the best rehabilitation empowers people to understand their injury, build confidence in their bodies, and return to the activities they enjoy with a clear plan for long-term success.

Outside of the clinic, you'll usually find Lorcan training for his next running or triathlon event. As an endurance athlete himself, he understands the commitment that goes into training and the frustration that injury can bring, allowing him to provide rehabilitation that is both practical and tailored to the real demands of running and sport.
