Injury Prevention and Taper Tips

Join us for a community run in preparation for the HOKA half marathon, just 2.5 weeks away!

We’ll kick things off by trialling a pair of HOKA Racing/Tempo trainers, then dive into practical tips on injury prevention and race-day strategy to help you run stronger and smarter. We’ll put it all into action with a relaxed group run, and wrap things up with post-run hydration from Rhise.

Run, learn, and connect — all in one session, before the big day!

PRESENTERS

Michael Denny-Smith

  • Michael has a wealth of experience in treating active individuals and sporting injuries.

He is fantastic with Shoulders, Hips, and Knees and particularly treating you and training you back to better movement than you’ve ever had before. A fantastic gymnast himself knows what the human body can do. He is also a keen runner and competes on the track during the summer athletics season, racing 400’s and 800’s.

Michael loves snowboarding and his favourite country is Japan. Ask him about his travels.

Michael is available by appointment at CLOVELLY and WAVERLEY.

Bill Chesters

  • Bill takes a practical and personalised approach, focusing on understanding your goals and helping you return to the activities that matter most to you.

Bill has been competing as a runner for over ten years and understands first-hand the demands of training and the frustration of injury. He still competes regularly in road running events, with a recent 5km time of just over 15 minutes. This experience shapes how he works with patients, whether they are managing a niggle or working towards a goal race.

He trained at the University of Birmingham, graduating with a First Class degree, and has gained experience working within the NHS across a variety of settings. He was also part of the physiotherapy team at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games polyclinic, further developing his interest in working with active individuals.

He has continued to develop his clinical skills through postgraduate training in shoulder and hip rehabilitation, as well as strength and conditioning. He also holds a British Athletics Assistant Coaching qualification, which supports his work with runners and those returning to sport.

Outside of the clinic, he supports Liverpool Football Club and enjoys a round of golf with friends.

Braden Pullen

  • Having navigated significant injuries himself, Braden understands the challenges of rehab and places a strong emphasis on clear communication and personalised care.

He has worked extensively within the running community and has particular expertise in managing tendon and bone stress injuries, as well as knee injuries and return-to-run planning. Braden is also an educator, with experience lecturing anatomy at Victoria University, and has worked with a range of sporting teams. He has completed further training in strength and conditioning, dry needling, and the GLA:D program for hip and knee osteoarthritis.
